WEST MONROE — An Oneida man was killed in a snowmobile accident in Oswego County Friday night.

State police said Antonio M. Curtis, 23, of Oneida, was riding with a friend near Depot Road and Route 49 in the Town of West Monroe when he was thrown off his sled. Curtis was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Syracuse.

The friend, 20-year-old Justin L. Digregorio, of Clay, told state police that he was riding ahead of Curtis at about 9:38 p.m. when he noticed a tree across the trail. Digregorio told troopers that he attempted to turn his snowmobile to avoid the tree, but hit the tree anyway.

After hitting the tree, Digregorio said he got off his sled and saw that Curtis was lying down on the trail behind him. Troopers said Digregorio called 9-1-1 and started CPR on Curtis.

Troopers said Digregorio was also hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.
