Snowfall leads to spate of accidents

TOWN OF MARCY — One person was hospitalized after a two car crash on Glass Factory Road Monday afternoon, when law enforcers said another driver tried to pass two vehicles while one of them was turning.

This was one of roughly 17 accidents that rescue personnel and law enforcement responded to in the hour between 2 and 3 p.m. Monday, though most of those accidents were caused by the sudden snowfall.

Sheriff’s deputies said Kenneth R. Cutler, 71, of Utica, was northbound at about 2:13 p.m. in a 2015 Toyota Tacoma when he attempted to pass a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway. Deputies said the vehicle was stopped because the vehicle in front of that one was making a left turn into a driveway.

Deputies said Cutler’s Toyota crashed into the driver’s side of the turning 2007 Toyota Corolla, driven by Jennifer L. Moreau, 35, of Herkimer. Moreau was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for minor injuries.

Cutler was ticketed for the crash and is scheduled to appear in Town Court, authorities said.

Heavy snowfall led to a multitude of motor vehicle accidents across the county Monday afternoon, according to court 9-1-1 records. Along with the 17 reported accidents between 2 and 3 p.m., there were roughly 60 reported crashes total between 1:30 and 5 p.m. across all of Oneida County.
