Smith's 19 lead Colgate past Loyola (MD) 92-73 in Patriot League Tournament
HAMILTON — Braeden Smith had 19 points in Colgate's 92-73 win over Loyola (MD) on Thursday night in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament.
Smith added six rebounds for the Raiders (24-8). Oliver Lynch-Daniels scored 15 points while going 6 of 8 (3 for 5 from distance). Ryan Moffatt was 4 of 9 shooting, including 3 for 5 from distance, and went 3 for 3 from the line to finish with 14 points. It was the sixth straight victory for the Raiders.
"You’re always nervous when the opposition has played one game and broken that seal of the conference payoffs when we’ve been sitting for a bit," Colgate coach Matt Langel said. "But we did get off to a great start. We got some great looks on the offensive end so our guys were able to play from there. We got some separation and were able to sustain that over the course of the game.
“These guys have learned how to play with one another and when they click, it’s really fun to watch," Langel added. "We can win games in many ways and take what the defense gives us. It’s nice for the fans when our guys play well, but now the first step is over and we’ve got to prepare for our next opponent.”
Golden Dike finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Greyhounds (13-20). Kenny Jones added 13 points and five assists for Loyola (MD). In addition, Jaylin Andrews finished with 12 points.
Top-seeded Colgate hosts fourth-seeded Army in the Patriot League semifinals on Sunday. Tip-off from Cotterell Court is 2 p.m., with the game televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. The Black Knights defeated fifth-seeded Boston University 71-69 in overtime in their quarterfinal matchup on Thursday.
