Smith Post earns third win in five games


Smith Post totaled 12 hits Monday against West Genesee in a Legion baseball game at SUNY Cortland.

The offense helped Smith edge West Genesee 8-7 for the team’s third win while playing four games over the last five days.

Smith also topped West Genesee on Friday at SUNY Cortland. On Saturday, Smith dropped a 4-3 decision to Cayuga Bombers before picking up a 9-1 win over the Cortland Crush and falling 4-2 to the Syracuse Bombers the next day.

On Monday, Smith Post got doubles from Marco Sparace, Mike Flint and Marco Macri.

Flint, Macri and PJ Summa each chipped in two RBI. Jacob Premo also added an RBI.

Kyle Williamson, who had an RBI, earned the win on the mound after pitching 1 1/3 innings. His other stats were not provided.

In the other four games, Derek Holmes totaled three RBI. Flint, Macri, Jack Lawless, Summa and Premo each had two.

Smith (5-5 overall) is scheduled to play Ilion Post at 6 p.m. Tuesday at RFA Stadium Field.

Ilion edges New Hartford

Ilion Post jumped out to a four-run lead Saturday morning and then held off New Hartford Post for an 8-7 District V victory at Central Valley Academy.

With Ilion ahead 7-6 following a three-run fifth inning from New Hartford, Ilion added some insurance.

With one out and a full count in the bottom sixth inning, Ayden Miner hit a sacrifice fly that scored Nick Green to make the score 8-6.

New Hartford got to within 8-7 when Mike Makuszax scored on a fielder’s choice with two outs. However, New Hartford’s Ben LoGalbo was out at second to end the game.

Ilion was helped by Nick Greene (double), Alan Meszler (home run) and Brayton Langdon, who each had two RBI.

Matthew Prestopnik earned the win after allowing seven hits and four earned runs over five innings. He struck out two and walked four.

Five players had an RBI for New Hartford.

New Hartford was playing Whitestown Post on Monday at DeLutis Field. No stats were available at press time.

Ilion was playing Moran Post on Monday at CVA. Stats were not available at press time.

Skermont lifts Whitestown Post over Oriskany

Colin Skermont threw a complete game in Whitestown Post’s 7-1 win over Oriskany Friday, and added a three-hit day at the plate.

Whitestown scored two runs in the first inning at home at DeLutis Field in Rome in the District V matchup. The team added three more in the third to take over the game.

Skermont allowed an unearned run, three hits and three walks. He struck out seven. He is now 3-0 on the season. At the plate, he had three singles, two RBIs and two runs scored, with three stolen bases.

Ty Kane also had three singles for Whitestown, with thre RBIs. Dominic Bullis singled and doubled, scored twice and drove in a run.

Whitestown is 5-0 on the season and 4-0 in District V. The team hosted New Hartford Monday. Results were not available at press time. The team next plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Moran Post at Camden Yards.

Oriskany is 0-5. The team hosts Charles Miller Post of Canastota at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at DeLutis Field One.
