SARATOGA SPRINGS — The Hamilton College Continentals competed at the 2018 New York State Collegiate Championships on Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs on May 5.
Hamilton, ranked sixth in this week’s USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Top 15 poll, qualified for the varsity 8 final for the third straight year by finishing first in its six-boat heat with the second-fastest time of the entire day at 7:18.400.
The Continentals posted a time of 7:24.392 in the grand final and outlasted No. 12 William Smith and No. 11 Rochester Institute of Technology by less than four seconds to earn the silver medal. No. 4 Ithaca College won the gold with a time of 7:13.800.
Hamilton finished second to Ithaca at last year’s championships.
The Continentals won the junior varsity 8 with a time of 7:52.200. RIT finished second with a time of 7:59.061 and Ithaca was third at 8:02.696.
Hamilton continued its winning ways in the novice fours by crossing the finish line in 8:57.100, outrowing the Ithaca Bombers by less than a second.
In the open fours, the Continentals finished fourth with a time of 9:57.576 while Union College won the race with a time of 9:25.600.
Hamilton travels to Worcester, Mass., for the 2018 National Invitational Rowing Championships on Friday, May 11.
The event also doubles as the NESCAC Championships.
