Sigmund “Ziggy” Sawicki, 98, of Rome, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on September 8, 1921. On September 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Maryann Skorobogaty, a blessed union of nearly 70 years. She passed away on May 19, 2018.
Ziggy worked for many years at Rome Cable, and was a world-travelled, avid musician who built his own radio show. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a true gentleman in every sense of the word, always leading by example with integrity, humbleness, and selflessness.
He is survived by a granddaughter, Kristi (Matt) DiRocco; four precious great-grandchildren, Ryan, Aydan, Maryn, and Leena; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James Sawicki, and granddaughter, Kimberly Dotterer.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
