Shots fired leads to weapon charges in Utica, police say
UTICA — A 31-year-old man is facing multiple weapons charges after several shots were fired on City Street late Friday night, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said they were dispatched to the 1200 block of City St. at about 11:30 p.m. Friday for a report of shots fired. Witnesses in the area pointed the officers towards several spent .380-caliber shell casings in a nearby driveway.
Jamal Richardson, 31, of Utica, was standing next to his vehicle in the driveway, police said. Several spent and live rounds were found in the vehicle, and it appeared they had been fired from the vehicle towards the street.
A loaded .380-caliber handgun was found beneath the driver's seat of the vehicle, police stated.
Richardson is charged with one count each of second and third-degree possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
