CLINTON — Holiday shoppers are invited to come and beat the crowds at the mall and shop small during the 2019 Shoppers’ Stroll on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29 and 30, on and around the historic Village Green.

Sponsored by the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, this last weekend in November is designed to kick off the holiday spirit with loads of complimentary food, drinks, music and community good will. The fun runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Friday.

“The Village of Clinton comes alive during the annual Shoppers’ Stroll and Holiday Parade on Friday, Nov. 29,” said Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jackie Walters.

“We look forward to this event every year since it brings the community together. The festivities offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of the malls and an opportunity to take part in a nostalgic event,” Walters added.

Shops will be open and local non-profit and civic groups will be set up on the sidewalks giving out popcorn and hot cider.

Festivities will continue on Small Business Saturday.

In the past, area churches have provided fresh baked goods, while non-profit and civic groups have sponsored sidewalk sales of roasted chestnuts, hot pretzels, buttered popcorn and cider.

There will be beautifully-adorned horses providing wagon rides around the Green, and community members are invited to join carolers in singing their favorite holiday tunes.

Horse-drawn wagon rides will be available Friday from noon to 4 p.m. with the Village Green Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m.

The annual Holiday Parade will commence at 7 p.m. It will travel down College Street and circle the Village Green en route to the Clinton Firehouse, where Santa Claus will be waiting for the children to tell him what’s on their wish lists.

Saturday, Nov. 30 festivities begin an hour earlier with the second annual 5-K Jingle Jog kicking off at 8 a.m.

The run requires registration and a $25 entrance fee, plus a $2.50 sign-up fee. Anyone interested can register at https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Clinton/ClintonShoppersStrolland5KJingleJog to register.

Online registration ends Nov. 29 at 11:59 p.m. But Clinton Chamber of Commerce website registration will also be available on Nov. 29 at the Soul Stop located at 8 College St., from noon to 6 p.m., and on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at The Village Tavern, where all runners can also pick up their bibs.

All registered runners will receive jingle bells to pin on with their bibs.

After the race, the Village Tavern will host an after-party for the adults.

For those with children, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with everyone at the gazebo, and the Alexander Hamilton Institute will stoke a fire pit to keep everyone warm, along with a serving of hot chocolate and S’mores.

Kirkland Art Center, 9 1/2 E. Park Row, will host an art show, plus the ninth annual Darryl Rahn concert, beginning at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5. Rahn, a native of New Hartford, is a national recording singer/songwriter who has recorded various songs and albums and has opened for several bands, such as MOE.

He will perform with long-time friends and colleagues Ben Phelps, Sean Saville (duo), and Stephen Babcock.
