SHERRILL — The next meeting of the Sherrill Garden Club will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, at the Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library, 543 Sherrill Road.

The meeting will begin by recognizing the six students from the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill area who each created a poster for the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Contest. Each student will receive their poster and a certificate of participation. Families are invited to attend and refreshments will be served. Special mention will be made of the four students whose posters won first, second or third place at their grade level with the first place winners posters further sent to the state level for judging.

The remainder of the meeting will be devoted to planning the annual plant sale to take place at the Community Activity Center, 139 E. Hamilton Ave. from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 20. The sale will feature perennials from members’ gardens, such as irises, day lilies, Solomon’s seal, and hostas among others as well as annual flowers, vegetables and herbs will also be available. There will also be a bake sale featuring cookies, small breads and pies. Hosts for the meeting are Bernadette VanValkenburg and Dale Major.

Community members are always welcome to attend the meeting and learn more about the Sherrill Garden Club, according to club officials.
