ROUNDUP: Shepardson’s long-range shooting leads WCV; RFA hockey falls
Brayden Shepardson hit five 3-pointers and finished with 32 points as the West Canada Valley boys basketball rolled to an 80-25 Center State Conference Division IV North victory over visiting Old Forge on Wednesday.
The senior point guard also had six assists and six steals for West Canada Valley (3-2), which has won back-to-back games. Junior Sean Burdick made 3 3s and finished with 17 points and six rebounds.
West Canada Valley’s next game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 against visiting Poland.
No stats were provided for Old Forge (1-2), which is scheduled to play Tupper Lake in a non-league affair at 7 p.m. Saturday.
RFA hockey falls on the road
Jake Premo scored twice but the Rome Free Academy ice hockey team lost 4-2 on the road against Cicero-North Syracuse Wednesday in a Division 1 matchup.
The Black Knights trailed 1-0 after a second period goal by C-NS.
Premo scored both RFA goals, with an assist on one by Johnny Sharrino.
In goal for RFA, Donte Sparace made 40 saves and allowed three goals in the loss. RFA allowed an empty net goal as well.
Braden Porter scored twice for C-NS. Andrew Davis scored and has an assist. Sam Richardson also scored.
Leyton Sullivan earned the win in goal, making 25 saves.
RFA is now 1-1 and will host the Bobby T. Ciccotti Tournament today and tomorrow at Kennedy Arena. The Knights play New Hartford at 7:30 tonight. The consolation game and championship game are Saturday.
Sauquoit gets volleyball win
The Sauquoit Valley girls volleyball team dropped the first set Wednesday at Little Falls, then won three in a row to win the match.
The host Mounties won the opening set 25-21 but lost the rest by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-16.
Leah Larsen had seven kills, three aces adn two digs for Sauquoit. Kaitlyn Corr had 14 assists, five aces and four digs.
Statistics for Little Falls were not submitted.
Sauquoit hosts Westmoreland at 7 tonight in the Center State Conference.
Little Falls travels to Frankfort-Schuyler at 7 tonight in the Center State.
