Several area officers graduate from police academy

UTICA — Seven new officers with the Rome Police Department were among a host of graduates from the Mohawk Valley Police
Academy.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Stanley Theater in Utica.

The Mohawk Valley Police Academy consists of 25 weeks of training, both in the classroom and in practical exercises, according to officials.

The Rome Police graduates were sworn into the job at a socially distanced ceremony in June 2020.

Their police academy training was delayed due to the pandemic.

Rome Police graduates include: Mikala Blumenstock, Kevin Fisher, Markel Griggs, Kalyn Olney, Anthony Pacicca, John Petrelli and Megan Pritchard.

Oneida County Sheriff graduate are: Christopher Dorr, Colin McDaniels and Holly Sroka.

Oneida Police graduate: Josh Hood.

The academy also graduated new officers for the Utica Police Department and the Auburn Police Department.

The training isn’t over for most of the new graduates. Most local agencies have post-academy field training for the new officers.
