Seven area artists to be inducted into Rome Arts Hall of Fame

Rome’s Capitol Theatre has announced seven individuals have been selection for induction into the Rome Arts Hall of Fame.

The seven — members of the Arts Hall of Fame Class of 2019 — will be recognized during a ceremony on April 28 at the Capitol Theatre, 220 W. Dominick St..

The Class of 2019 is the fourteenth group to be enshrined in the Rome Arts Hall of Fame which was created in 2005 to honor individuals who have a strong connection to the Rome community and have a significant involvement in the performing, visual or literary arts.

Inductees can be living or deceased.

The 2019 inductees are:

Carmen Amato is the author of the detective Emilia Cruz mystery series which is set in Acapulco. She has also authored a political thriller and a romantic suspense novel. Additionally, Amato edited a nonfiction collection of travel essays on Mexico.

Megan Anderegg’s experience in newspaper layout and design gave her a realistic viewpoint from which to offer valuable career guidance to her RFA students.

Anderegg serves at the teacher coordinator for the Rome City School district’s art department while providing instruction in studio art, graphic design, advanced drawing and painting and computer art.

Clifford successfully combines his talents as a photographic artist with his professional position as a news photographer. Clifford frequently captures images of wildlife in natural habitats.

Alice Dennis and her lovable puppet friends have performed at many venues throughout central New York.

Dennis frequently combines her talents as a performance artist with her visual arts skills to create soft sculptures which then frequently become characters in her storytelling presentations.

Bernie Hurlbut’s contributions to the performing arts include designing and painting theatrical sets as well as performances with barbershop quartets and choruses. His visual arts abilities include advertising sign design and execution, writing and illustrating children’s books and generating cartoons.

He is also a sketch artist.

Kimberly Nethaway began her music career by inspiring young people in her many positions as a choral music educator. At the same time, she supported several area churches as organist. She is currently the director of the one hundred voice Oneida Area Civic Chorale.

Gail Tucker’s theatrical skills cover on stage roles and off stage responsibilities for costume design and construction for the Rome Community Theater and for the Capitol’s annual SummerStage productions.

Tucker has also served as a Capitol board member for the past thirty years.

The Sunday, April 28, induction ceremony is open to the public will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door and are $15 for adults and $10 for students. A family ticket for $40 will also be available.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
