Seniors express thanks, compete in turkey scavenger hunt

HERKIMER — Herkimer Central School District seniors were busy during English class recently with a variety of Thanksgiving activities based on thankfulness and using the library.

Working with English teacher Brooke Jones Nov. 21 and 22, Herkimer seniors first selected a current Herkimer Jr./Sr. High School staff member that they are thankful for and wrote them a professional email expressing their gratitude. After that, students created custom turkey hats that listed what they were most thankful for on them.

The seniors also submitted creative names for turkeys that would be used for a turkey scavenger hunt in the Jr./Sr. High School Library Media Center.

For this scavenger hunt, library media specialist Brianne Bello created 12 clues that students had to solve by using the library catalog OPALS and their knowledge of the library and its resources. Library licensed teaching assistant Ashley Sommer also helped with the scavenger hunt.

Once students solved each clue, they had to navigate the library to locate the hidden turkeys and write down the turkeys’ unique names on their answer sheet. The first team to complete the scavenger hunt won a prize.
