Self-taught painter’s work on display in Old Forge

An exhibit of self-taught artist Tim Ames’s paintings, Landscape Painting Adventures, will be on display at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., from Dec. 3-29 during regular library hours of operation.

An opening reception will be held 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7. The public is invited to stop by for light refreshments, meet the artist and view his paintings. Acoustic guitar music will be performed by Dan Vellone.

At the age of 55, Ames decided to try painting as a hobby. Aided by a library of books by great artists and teachers, he is a self-taught artist, specializing in landscape and waterscapes of central and northern New York and Cape Cod.

His paintings have received more than 80 awards in local, national and international art show competitions including numerous first-place ribbons and five best-of-show awards.

In addition to his painting avocation, Ames has spent most of his free time establishing an artist co-op in Oswego, providing a venue for local artists to display and sell their work.
