Section III softball playoffs: Oneida no-hits Phoenix; CVA advances
The Oneida softball team got off to a near-perfect start in the Section III Class B playoffs Monday with a combined no-hiter and a 19-0 home win over Phoenix in the first round in a five-inning game.

Section III softball playoffs: Oneida no-hits Phoenix; CVA advances
The Oneida softball team got off to a near-perfect start in the Section III Class B playoffs Monday with a combined no-hiter and a 19-0 home win over Phoenix in the first round in a five-inning game.
Kerrigan Crysler went the first four innings in the circle for Oneida, allowing two walks and striking out eight. Bethany Honness finished things off with another hitless inning, allowing three walks and striking out the side.
Crysler also had four hits including a double, with five RBIs and three runs. Honness had two hits, three RBIs and two runs. Carly Uhlig had three hits, two runs and an RBI. Katie Kinney had a hit, three RBIs and three runs. Vanessa Babcock had two hits, two RBIs and a run.
Oneida (9-10), the 12 seed, advanced to play fifth-seeded Westhill (10-7) on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
CVA cruises past Mexico
Central Valley Academy needed five innings to eliminate Mexico in the first round of the Class B playoffs Monday in an 18-1 win.
Anna Johannssen threw all five innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks for the win.
Kaylee Beam homered and had two doubles for CVA, driving in three runs. Scout Ludwig had two hits, three RBIs and two runs. Morgan Russo homered and singled with two RBIs and three runs. Grace Scanlon had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
CVA (10-11), the 11 seed, played sixth-seeded Adirondack (13-3) on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
Weedsport edges Little Falls
Weedsport scored six first inning runs but needed a run in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, 14-13, against visiting Little Falls in the first round of the Class C playoffs.
The 18th-seeded Mounties had tied the game at 6-6 in the top of the third but the 15th-seeded Warriors responded with three more to lead 9-6. When Little Falls scored four in the sixth it made it 13-12 Weedsport. Little Falls tied the game with a run in the seventh but Weedsport immediately scored in the bottom of the inning to win.
Weedsport’s Morgan Flask led the way with three hits, two RBIs and three runs. Mallory Brown hit a solo home run.
Statistics for Little Falls were not submitted. The team ended the season 7-11.
