Second trial date set in Golden murder case
ONEIDA CASTLE — A second trial date has been set for the Canandaigua man charged as an accomplice in a robbery turned homicide in Oneida Castle.
The first trial ended in a hung jury in April.
Travon Golden, age 24, is scheduled to go back to trial in Oneida County Court on Oct. 3, according to court officials.
Golden is charged with one count each of second-degree murder and first and third-degree robbery.
Authorities said Golden was the driver when he and co-defendant Romero Collier, of Syracuse, traveled to the Oneida Castle home of Tyler McBain on Aug. 4, 2020.
Authorities said Collier went inside and stole a quantity of marijuana from McBain, then shot and killed McBain.
Collier went to trial in September 2021 and he was convicted of one count each of first and second-degree murder, as well as first-degree criminal use of a firearm and first-degree robbery.
Collier was sentenced in December to life in prison.
Golden went to trial in April and the trial ended with a hung jury, unable to reach a unanimous verdict.
At the time, Oneida County District Attorney Scott D. McNamara promised to try again.
The trial will be presided over by Judge Michael L. Dwyer.
Golden is represented by defense attorney Daniel DuBois, of Buffalo.
Golden has remained in the Oneida County jail since he was taken into custody.
