Second annual Armed Forces Day event Saturday

UTICA — Harley Davidson of Utica — 4870 Commercial Drive — will host the second annual celebration of Armed Forces Day, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 21.

All veterans, area residents, and riding groups are invited. U.S. flags and signs saluting U.S. military services are also welcome, according to an announcement by event organizers.

This free public event is co-sponsored by RightWayUSA.

U.S. Air Force veteran Steven Piacentino will be master of ceremonies. American Legion Post 1376 will present the colors and a 21-gun salute. Vocalist David Olney will sing the National Anthem.

The opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance will be led by Melvin Wright of the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, R-22, New Hartford, is scheduled to speak as well as New York Mills Mayor Ernie Talerico and a representative from the Veterans Outreach Center.

Music will be performed by the Dusty Puppies Band and U.S. Army veteran Robert Schmelcher. Patriotic memorabilia will be sold, as will Mr. Z’s Street Eatz food.

New York Mills fire and police equipment will be on display.

Monetary donations, nonperishable food, bagged clothing, personal hygiene and toiletry items for The Veterans Outreach Center will be appreciated, according to event organizers.
