Smith Post won its District V American Legion baseball opener with a 9-2 victory over Oriskany Post on Saturday afternoon at Rome Free Academy Stadium.
Justin Swavely recorded the win going five innings allowing two runs on five hits, three walks and struck out four.
Logan DeLutis received the save going to two scoreless innings.
Offensively Smith was led by Riley Brawdy’s two hits, included a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Aaron Simons, Ben Minicozzi, Ryan Marrello and Klye Williamson all added two hits apiece to help pace the winners.
Steven Armstrong went 41/3 innings to suffer the loss in relief of starter Brandon Reid for Oriskany.
Colton Davis had two hits to lead Oriskany offensively, while Carl Graziadei drove in a pair of runs.
Also on Saturday at Holland Patent High School, Helmuth-Ingalls of Clinton outscored Roberts Post 15-10.
Roberts was paced by Rob Maciol, Andrew Ingersol and Jeff Sobel with a pair of hits each, while Ingersol and Jake Morra had three RBIs each.
Morra went 2 2/3 innings to take the loss for Roberts.
