‘Scrap for the Cap’ to raise funds for iconic theatre
ROME — Got some scrap metal and a desire to help a good cause?
Rome Capitol Theatre’s annual “Scrap for the Cap” metal drive will be held from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 19 through Saturday, May 21, and officials of the downtown arts district anchor say it will raise much needed funds to help the arts thrive in the community.
“Scrap for the Cap” is an annual campaign to raise funds for the non-profit organization. Over the years it has raised thousands of dollars to repair and maintain the historic theatre.
Items accepted for donation include copper, brass, steel, electrical wire, aluminum, bicycles, propane tanks and lead batteries. Vehicle donations are especially welcome and include free pick-up by appointment.
Refrigeration units, including air conditioners and dehumidifiers are not accepted, but can be recycled at the Perimeter Road transfer station.
To make a donation, items may be brought to the Capitol Theatre’s receiving area on Gigliotti Avenue, behind Keaton & Lloyd Bookshop. To schedule vehicle pick-up, call Joseph Borasky at 315-623-7692.
Scrap metal and motor vehicles are processed locally by Rubicon Recycling.
