School district switches to three-day food service schedule

Posted

Schedule changes were announced by the Rome school district food service meal distribution program for students and by the Connected Community Schools Rome food pantry for local families, which both have operating in response to the COVID-19 situation.

• Beginning today, the school district's Grab and Go food service program will provide meals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only, according to a district announcement on its Facebook page. It previously has been Monday-Friday.

The locations and times will be unchanged, and students will receive enough food each day to cover the next day as well, the announcement said. The meal distributions will continue to be 10:30 a.m.-noon at the district's seven elementary schools, and 11 a.m.-noon at the South Rome Senior Center.

The program's days were decreased due to staff availability factors, district Superintendent Peter C. Blake said today. Schools have been closed since mid-March due to COVID-19.

• The Connected Community Schools food distribution for the community will now be Tuesdays only from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Gansevoort Elementary School, 758 W. Liberty St., according to an update by the organization.

The program, which has been operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays, has had some previous schedule adjustments since being launched last month. The organization is accepting donations of nonperishable/shelf-stable food products and hygiene products, plus monetary donations. For information, call 315-292-3250 or 315-982-2520.
