ONEIDA — The city of Oneida’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold a scenic bike tour, “Tuesday on the Towpath,” on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. Cyclists should meet at the Oneida Rail Trail Pedestrian Plaza on the intersection of North Main and East Railroad Streets.
The tour will allow cyclists to explore Oneida’s rich history, including rail and transportation heritage and the famous utopian-society-turned-manufactury, the Oneida Community. Newly opened Oneida Rail Trail (ORT) sections will be used, and attendees can learn about plans for future ORT expansions.
This year marks the seventh anniversary of the ward-winning Tuesday on the Towpath series. The rides are guided and typically include a speaker who discusses the history and ecology found along the route.
All riders with at least some biking experience are welcome. Participation is free, and helmets are required.
The next Towpath Tuesday ride is in Fayetteville on Aug. 27.
