COLUMN: Say hello to Anastasia

Bringing the focus back to an old face — this beautiful girl is Anastasia! She has been at the Humane Society of Rome since July and is a very special kitty!

Anastasia has had a hard life here at the shelter — she had to have all of her teeth out and we had spent a while trying to figure out why she had consistent drooling. That has calmed down since we found a way to monitor it, but we know basically that she has an autoimmune disease.

But that does not stop her one bit! You would never guess that she has had such a hard time, she is a super active cat and absolutely loves people (but would prefer if she had all fours on the ground)! Her favorite thing to play with are little jingle balls, she would chase those all day if she could.

Though she has been shaved down, you can see her beautiful brown and black long tiger fur around her face. Currently she is only eating wet food (because of her lack of teeth!) but she absolutely loves it when one or two of the “Lil’slurprises” or any type of lickable treats are mixed in.

We are hoping someone will come soon and give her the special life she deserves. She is such a good girl! Since she is a bit of a special needs kitty, we recommend that she goes into a home with no young children, and no other animals. Come to the shelter to see this spunky girl and hopefully you will fall in love.

Cat toys needed

We have an urgent need for cat toys. We have a large feline population at the shelter and we don’t have quite enough cat toys to go around. We want to make sure we keep our cats happy, entertained and energized while waiting for their forever homes. They need to keep their minds stimulated so boredom does not set in (and have fun of course!) and toys do the trick! Thank you.

Spay/neuter fund

It’s that time of year when spring is upon us. What does that mean to an animal shelter? Kittens and puppies! Which leads me to let my readers know that we welcome your very kind donations, especially those made for our spay/neuter fund. The rising cost of spaying and neutering our animals is sometimes overwhelming. We thank you for your support.
