Sauquoit Valley ninth grader Kamryn Yerman won the Section III girls golf tournament at Kanon Valley in Oneida Tuesday.

Yerman fired an 82 to win by four strokes over Jamesville-DeWitt’s Sarah Burgess.

Rome Free Academy senior Evie Denton was third with an 88.

The top 10 qualified for the state tournament June 3-5 at the Edison Club in Rexford. The rest of the qualifiers were: Isabell Borte and Linsey Kuballa of Cicero-North Syracuse and Hana Kang of Christian Brothers Academy in a tie for fourth, with all shooting 91; Amitees Fazeli of Manlius Pebble Hill in seventh with a 92; Ellie Secor of Remsen and Alana Weaver of Sauquoit in a tie in eighth with scores of 93; and Lainie Liberatore of Camden and Jessica Ricciardi of Cicero-North Syracuse at 94.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill won the Division II (small schools) team title by five strokes over CBA.

RFA was third in Division I (large schools), 18 strokes behind winner C-NS. New Hartford was seventh.

Stilwell and MacGregor lead state qualifier

Whitesboro’s Chris Stilwell and Nate MacGregor of Baldwinsville were co-leaders after the first of two days at the Section III boys golf state qualifier Wednesday.

Stilwell and MacGregor both shot a 76 at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton.

The second day is Friday at the same course.

Twenty-one golfers made the cut to play on the second day. Hamilton’s Will Chouinard was one shot behind the leaders. New Hartford’s JP Lazzaro and Mitchell Archer and Jackson Saroney, both of Baldwinsville, all shot 80.

Three golfers shot 81 — Campbell Jenkins of New Hartford, Holland Patent’s Jacob Olearczyk and Tyson Diribba of Skaneateles. Seven golfers were tied with a round of 82: Gavin Poyer of Waterville, Jack Byrnes of Cazenovia, Trey Jacobson of Jamesville Dewitt, Brian Secor of Remsen, Max Jones of Cooperstown, Kevin Waters of Oswego and Jack Gregory of Christian Brothers Academy.

Tommy Goodelle of New Hartford, Gavin Howd of Oriskany and Tyrus Kelly of Chittenango all shot an 83. Will Glass of Marcellus and Carter Baum of Cortland both shot 84.
