Sandra W. Taylor passed away peacefully on June 19, 2019 at the Rome Hospital Residential Care Unit with her family at her side.

Sandra was born on May 25, 1944 in Rome, NY, the daughter of Franklyn and Virginia (Corr) Waterman. She attended Rome Schools, graduating from Rome Free Academy and Oswego State University obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education. Sandra was a Kindergarten and First Grade teacher in the Rome School System for 36 years and in 2001 she retired to pursue civic activities, singing, and spend time with her grandchildren.

On August 19, 1967, she married W. Joseph Taylor at St. Mary’s Church in Rome. They lived in Rome their entire lives. In addition to teaching school, Sandra served as Secretary-Treasurer for AmCare Ambulance Service, helping her husband start their business.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, Rome Twigs, the Oneida Chorale and the Wednesday Morning Club. Sandra’s loves besides her family was her church, her singing (especially with the Oneida Chorale and two European tours) and teaching others.

Sandra is survived by her husband W. Joseph; a son, Paul W. (Seana) Taylor, Lee Center, NY; and a daughter, Rebecca (Malcolm) Vanalstyne, Rochester, NY; a brother Wayne (Christine) Waterman of Rome; four grandchildren, Abigail and Lauren Taylor, Luke and Paige Vanalstyne.

Sandy will be remembered for her smile, her ability to listen to others, her non-judgmental attitude and her sense of humor. Her glass was always half full.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Rome Memorial Hospital Residential Care Unit for their professionalism, care and many kindnesses.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St., Rome. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at the pleasure of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7551 Merrick Road, Rome Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Rome Hospital Residential Care Unit Activity Fund, 1500 N. James St., Rome, NY 13440 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 108 W. Court St., Rome, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to Prince-Boyd & Hyatt Home For Funerals, Inc.
