Ruth E. ‘Betty’ (Crofton) Hatch

Ruth E. “Betty” Hatch, 97, of Verona, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Born in Utica on April 10, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie (Curl) Crofton. She was a graduate of the Academy of Holy Names in Rome, Class of 1939, and attended St. Rose College in Albany. On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to Oscar “Augie” Hatch. He passed away, June 6, 2001. 

She and her husband moved to Verona, NY, to raise their family. Later in life, Ruth’s passion for books led her to a career with World Book Encyclopedia. She retired after many years at Macy’s Dept. Store. Ruth loved swimming and was passionate about old movies and travel, visiting many of her dream locations in Europe. 

Survivors include three sons, Michael of Rochester, NY, Thomas (Laura) of Williamson, NY, and James of Verona, NY; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Katherine) Hatch and Abigail (Pande) Nikolevski; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Annabel Hatch; her brother, William F. (Margaret) Crofton Jr.; and two nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Peter and Paul, and a sister, Ann Crofton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Verona in the spring. There are no calling hours.
