TROY — Despite an early goal, the Colgate men’s hockey team fell 3-1 to RPI on the road Friday night.
Colgate capitalized on its first power play six minutes into the game when Trevor Cosgrove scored, but RPI got the tying game less than two minutes later. Colgate faced a five-minute penalty kill midway though the opening stanza, with RPI taking a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal.
The Engineers increased their lead to 3-1 with another power- play goal in the third period.
Freshman goaltender Mitch Benson tallied 28 saves in the loss for Colgate.
Colgate completes the weekend’s ECAC series tonight on the road at No. 18 Union before returning to Hamilton to host St. Lawrence and Clarkson on Feb. 8-9.
