RPD investigating car explosion on Elm Street


An explosion involving a 2016 Nissan sedan on Elm Street is under investigation by the Rome Police Department.

Authorities said a loud explosion awoke several neighbors in the 800 block of Elm St. at about 1 a.m. Wednesday. Responding officers found a 2016 Nissan sedan engulfed in flames in the middle of the street.

Police said the car was unoccupied. No other vehicles or buildings were affected. City fire officials doused the flames.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, police said. Detectives are looking for home security camera footage from anyone living in the Elm Street area.
