Route 825 ramp to close Monday; work to be complete in September

ROME — The state Department of Transportation advises motorists heading into or out of the Griffiss Business and Technology Park that the Route 825 bridge over Route 365 near Rome Free Academy and the Orgill Distribution Center will close to all traffic beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 18.

The closure includes the ramp from Route 825 southbound to Route 49 eastbound and the ramp from Route 49 westbound to Route 825 northbound, the DOT announcement added. The closure is necessary, officials said, to facilitate rehabilitation work on the Route 825 bridge. The closure — and subsequent detour — is expected to remain in place through the middle of September, weather permitting.

Motorists should follow posted detour routes, the announcement said.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones, the DOT said, adding that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
