Route 49 road rage incident under investigation

A reported road rage incident at the Griffiss exit on Route 49 is under investigation after a man threw an ax at another driver’s window, according to law enforcement officials.

State police said a woman was driving on Route 49 on Tuesday when she claims a man in a dark-colored SUV attempted to run her of the road. The woman told police she did not know why the other driver was acting like this.

Troopers said the man — described as a white, heavyset male with a bushy mustache and dark-colored hair — started throwing items out of his window before he came to a stop on the exit ramp to the Griffiss Business and Technology Park.

The woman told state police that the man got out of his vehicle and threw what appeared to be an ax at her driver side window. The woman said she fled the scene. No arrests have been made so far.

State police are asking that anyone with information on the incident, or who may have witnessed the man in the dark-colored SUV on the Griffiss exit ramp during the day on Tuesday, to call investigators at 315-366-6000. All calls will be kept confidential.
