The unbeaten New Hartford girls soccer team advanced to the Section III Class A semifinals with a 7-0 win at home over Watertown Thursday.

Willa Pratt scored twice and had an assist, and teammate Anna Rayhill also scored twice. Kacey Richards, Talia Vitullo and Meghan Kolb also scored once each. Alex Volo collected an assist.

In goal for the Spartans, Savannah Cole made one save.

Ava Virga made seven saves for Watertown.

The defending Class A state chamions have a 54-game unbeaten streak.

The Spartans are 16-0-1 this season and as the two seed in the tournament will take on three seed Jamesville-Dewitt (12-4-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chittenango high school.

Sauquoit Valley moves on in girls soccer

With goals from four different scorers, the Sauquit Valley girls soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Section III Class C playoffs with a 4-1 win over Dolgeville Thursday.

Sauquoit led 2-1 at the half then expanded the lead with two more goals in the second half.

Kaitlyn Corr and Addison Lazarek had a goal and an assist each.

Also scoring were Mekayla Schafer and Ella Dischiavo.

Jadyn Land made two saves in goal for Sauquoit.

Dolgeville’s Reece Lamphere scored on an assist from Ally Comstock. Teammate Kerisa Van Olst made nine saves in net.

The third seed is now 15-2-1 and will play second-seeded Beaver River (18-0) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Copenhagen high school.

Herkimer girls soccer eliminated

The Herkimer girls soccer team was eliminated from the Section III Class C playoffs with a 5-0 loss at Beaver River Thursday.

Beaver River has won all 18 games this season and is the second seed in the playoffs. The team got a hat trick from Kaylee Zehr. Adalynn Olmstead scored and had an assist. Kennedy Becker also scored.

Katelyn Adams made three saves in the win.

Herkimer goalkeeper Bailey Bray made nine saves.

The Magicians end the season 9-9.

Beaver River plays three-seed Sauquoit Valley (15-2-1) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Copenhagen high school in the semifinals.

VVS field hockey advances

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill field hockey team advanced to the semifinals of the Section III Class C playoffs with a 3-0 win over visiting Mount Markham Thursday.

Carmella Garcia scored a pair of first half goals for the third-seeded Red Devils and Grace Croft added an insurance goal in the second half. Meredith Guertin and Aaliyah Sequin had an assist each.

In goal for VVS, Devyn Balfe stopped all four shots she faced.

Mustangs’ goalie Hayley Lee made nine saves.

VVS (9-7-1) will play two seed Canastota (11-3) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at VVS high school.

Local gymnasts qualify for states

The New Hartford gymnastics team won the Section III team event Friday while a number of local gymnasts qualified for individual events at states.

Whitesboro was second and Jamesville-Dewitt/Fayetteville-Manlius was third.

Representing the section in the all-around are Grayson Gall, Madison Scrantonand Kiara Khiamdavanh.

Qualifying in the vault are Jayla Jordan of New Hartford, Charlotte Ford of JD/FM and Katie DiStefano of JD/FM.

Qualifying in the bars are Jordan, DiStefano and Payton Smith of Oriskany.

Qualifying in the beam are Antoinette Sakellariou of JD/FM, Aubrey Hughes of Whitesboro and Lilyana Wehrle of Whitesboro.

Qualifying in the floor exercises are Hughes, Jordan and Sakellariou.

Gabriella Dietz of New Hartford is the alternate.
