ROUNDUP: Johnson scores pair of goals in Camden win; Frankfort moves on
Rhyanne Johnson scored twice to help the Camden field hockey team to a 5-1 win at home over Homer Wednesday in the Section III Class B playoffs.
The fourth-seeded Blue Devils ran out to a 3-0 first quarter lead and were up 4-1 at the half over the five seed.
Emily Bird and Gabby Croniser had a goal and an assist each in the win. Lillie Howe also scored. Avery Prievo had a pair of assists and Kaitlyn Findlay had one.
Abby Henderson stopped one shot for Camden in goal.
Hann Bouwens scored on an assist from Mallory Kline for Homer’s lone goal. Teammate Aislynn Cobb had 10 saves.
Camden (7-6-4) advances to play top seed Holland Patent (12-4) at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill high school.
Frankfort boys soccer advances
The Frankfort-Schuyler boys soccer team started its playoff push with a 5-0 win at home over Syracuse Academy of Science Wednesday. The six seed eliminated the 11 seed in the opening round of the Section III Class C tournament.
Braydon Matos stopped all seven shots he faced in goal for the hosts.
Luke Harrod scored twice in the win. Roman Harrod and Conner Grates each had a goal and an assist. Roman Kulev and Jack Giambrone also scored. Angelo DeSarro and Daniel Shmat had an assist each.
Syracuse goalkeeper Yahye Farah made eight saves.
Frankfort improves to 9-6-1 and will now play three seed Cooperstown (13-1-2) at 3 p.m. Friday on the road.
Oneida tennis advances to regional play
The Section III Class B girls tennis team champion Oneida got a 4-3 win against Class C Skaneateles at home Wednesday to advance to regionals.
Lilly Gormley won her singles match for Oneida 6-3, 6-3.
Oneida won three of four doubles matches. Winning were the pairs of Julianna Caroli and Mya Rainbow 6-1, 6-0, Kaylee French and Kennedy Curro 6-3, 6-2 and Emily French and Claire Vaccaro 6-0, 6-0.
Oneida will play against Section II school Ichabod Crane at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Park in Schenectady.
Westmoreland girls modified wins again
The Westmoreland girls modified soccer won 4-1 at Frankfort-Schuyler Wednesday. Isabella smith had a hat trick.
Charlotte Acee also scored for the Bulldogs. Ella Whameling and Autumn Coffin each had an assist. Westmoreland imrpoves to 11-0-1 with one game left in the season.
