ROUNDUP: RFA, Spartans, Golden Knights soccer; field hockey, swimming, cross country


Amelia Furbeck scored four times and six other players also tallied for the Rome Free Academy girls soccer team in an 11-0 win at Oneida in a Tri-Valley League matchup Saturday.

Furbeck also added an assist. Mia Mirabelli scored twice. Nicolina Lokker scored and had three assists. Brynn Furbeck and Arianna Petrelli each had a goal and an assist. Rebecca Redmond and Brooke Frawley also scored. Aleix Failing had an assist.

In net for RFA, Mikayla McPheron stopped two shots.

Statistics for Oneida were not provided.

RFA visits Notre Dame Tuesday at 4:15 p.m. in the TVL.

Oneida hosts Whitesboro in the league Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Spartans blank Golden Knights

The New Hartford girls soccer team continued its long unbeaten streak with a 6-0 win against visiting Holland Patent Saturday in the TVL.

The Spartans led 2-0 at the half and added four goals in the second half.

Erin Cahill, Willa Pratt, Alex Volo, Amanda Graziano and Mia Roberts each scored. Anna Rayhill added a pair of assists and Kacey Richards had one. HP also allowed an own goal.

Savannah Cole and Abby O’Connor split time in net for New Hartford. Neither faced a shot on goal.

HP’s Izzy Hobin made 10 saves.

New Hartford is now 6-0-1 over and 5-0 in the TVL Colonial Division. The team has a 44-game unbeaten streak. The Spartans play at Central Valley Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the league.

HP hosts Utica Proctor at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the league.

Remsen gets past Oriskany in soccer

The Remsen girls soccer team got a 3-2 win at home against Oriskany on Saturday in the Center State Conference.

Remsen statistics were not submitted.

Oriskany’s Alivia Rizzo scored and assisted on a goal by Addison Fabbio. Juliet Tagliaferri had an assist in the game as well.

Kaylee Burnop stopped 13 shots in goal for Oriskany.

Remsen plays next at 6 p.m. Wednesday against league for Poland.

Oriskany hosted Hamilton Monday. Results were not available at press time.

Frankfort-Schuyler gets past Westmoreland

The Frankfort-Schuyler girls soccer team managed a 2-1 win at Westmoreland in the Center State Conference Saturday.

Ajla Ikeljic and Ava Wercznski each scored for Frankfort-Schuyler. Madison Kelly had an assist.

In goal, Angelina Tangorra stopped six shots to earn the win.

Victoria Downs scored for the Bulldogs.

Emily Gubbins made five saves in the loss.

Frankfort-Schuyler travels to Herkimer at 7 p.m. Wednesday in league play.

Westmoreland plays at Dolgeville at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the league.

Clinton field hockey notches pair of shutout wins

The Clinton field hockey team strung together a 1-0 win over Mount Markham Friday on the road then defeated Sauquoit Valley 6-0 Saturday at home. Both were Center State Conference victories.

Against Sauquoit, Gracen Grimm had a hat trick and an assist. Alia Graziadei scored twice and Gretchen Grimm had a goal as well. Lauren Rey had two assists and three plays — Skyler McFadden, Josephine Rioux and Elise Pape — had an assist each.

In goal for Clinton, Chloe White made one save.

Emily Forbes had nine saves for Sauquoit and Aubrey Bradbury had five in split time.

Sauquoit hosts Little Falls in the league at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Against Mount Markham, Gracen Grimm scored on an assist from Pape.

White stopped two shots for the shutout.

Mount Markham’s Haylee Lee had 17 saves.

Clinton, 6-1, hosts non-league opponent Port Byron at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Black Knights top Bees with one goal

The RFA field hockey team scored a first quarter goal then protected it the rest of the game for a 1-0 win at home over Baldwinsville in non-league action.

Fiona McMahon scored the game’s lone goal.

Jaylene Rodriguez made eight stops in goal for RFA to earn the shutout.

The Bees’ Caley Gee also made eight saves.

RFA hosted Oneida in the TVL Monday. Results were not available at press time.

Spartans and Blue Devils play to a draw

The New Hartford and Camden field hockey teams played a scoreless tie Friday in a TVL game in Camden.

HP falls to Johnstown

The Holland Patent field hockey team scored first but lost 2-1 to host Johnstown Saturday in a non-league game.

HP’s Michaela Cushman scored the team’s lone goal.

Maggie Koenig stopped five shots in goal for the Golden Knights.

Statistics for Johnstown were not submitted.

HP played a TVL matchup at Whitesboro Monday. Results were not available at press time.

Smith scores twice in Bulldogs’ win

Riley Smith scored two goals and had an assist in a 5-0 win for the Westmoreland-Oriskany boys soccer team at home Friday in the Center State.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first half.

Jack Tamburino had a goal and two assists. Tyler Szarek and Anthony Sawanec each had a goal and an assist. Jack Tagliaferri also had an assist.

David Cronauer made five saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

Canastota’s Conner Russell made 12 saves.

Westmoreland-Oriskany, now 5-1, hosts Adirondack at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the league.

Spartans’ offense erupts for nine goals

The New Hartford boys soccer team defeated host Holland Patent 9-0 Saturday in the TVL.

Chase Giambrone scored twice and had two assists. Baltazar Vale de Gato also scored twice. Chris Selvarajah scored and had an assist. Keegan McDermott, Michael Linden, Aly Radwan and Arda Sencicek. Ashton Giambrone had two assists. Also collected an assist each were Noah Partenza, Josh Ellis and Seamus Clive.

Cooper Borelli stopped all four shots he faced in net for New Hartford.

Statistics for HP were not submitted.

New Hartford hosts RFA at 6 p.m. Thursday in the league.

HP plays a road league game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday against Utica Proctor.

Grabowski breaks her own diving record; RFA’s Pugh sets pool record

Analyce Grabowski of West Canada Valley broke her own pool record Friday with a diving score of 196.05.

The team swam to a 50-47 home win against Rome Free Academy. Imani Pugh of RFA broke the pool record in 200 individual medley with a time of 2:33:83.

Margaret Jones of West Canada Valley qualified for sectionals in the 100-meter backstroke.

West Canada, 2-2, visits Utica Proctor at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Center State.

RFA, 1-3, visits league foe Cooperstown at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

VVS boys XC wins New Hartford Invitational

The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill boys cross country team finished first among a dozen schools at the New Hartford Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

VVS had a top score of 54. Oneonta was second (67 points), New Hartford was third (90), Whitesboro was fourth (132), Tully was fifth (141), Sauquoit Valley was sixth (165), Utica Proctor was seventh (193), Clinton was eighth (214), Utica Notre Dame was ninth (219), Central Valley Academy was 10th (269), Adirondack was 11th (298) and Oriskany was 12th (311).

The top time in the 3.1-mile race was Kole Owens of Sauquoit in 16:27.9 minutes. The local runners who also finished in the top 10 were: Nico Tidmore of Proctor in second, VVS’ Killian Bauer in third, VVS’ Ben Bellinger in fith, Oneida’s Tyson Fuller in sixth, Jordan Wingert of VVS in eighth, John Musante of Clinton in ninth and Owen Sweet of Proctor in 10th.
