The Rome Rotary Club’s annual Canalfest will be held on Friday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 8. The event, which was canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19, will be held this year in “cooperation from Mayor (Jacqueline M.) Izzo’s office and the generosity of our community sponsors.” The event, organizers say, “promises a good time for the Rome community.”
Rides on the event’s midway will be open all three days, organizers said, adding that on Friday, Aug. 6, Midnight Mike will open for Fritz’s Polka Band. The Rotary Fishing Derby will be held from 8 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Also performing at Canalfest will be the John Hayes O’Neill School of Dance; guitarist Jon Liebing; and The LOCO Brothers.
Fireworks will be held at sunset on both Friday and Saturday nights. On Sunday, food, music with a DJ, boathouse activities and a water ski show are scheduled.
Organizers added that more information, including event times, will be available on event brochures which will be available in the community soon, including at the Honor America Day’s concert on the lawn of the Fort Stanwix National Monument.
