An informational meeting about Rotary Youth Exchange program opportunities for students to live in another country for a summer or for a school year will be held May 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Rome Free Academy in Room 1329 of the science wing.
The session is geared toward teens who may have thought about being an exchange student, and for parents who may have wondered what their child would experience as an exchange student.
Anyone is welcome to attend the informational meeting, said Sam Pendergrast, pastor of First Presbyterian Church and youth exchange officer for the Rome Rotary Club.
For the exchange program, the Rome Rotary Club sponsors outbound students from the RFA attendance zone, while if a student is from a neighboring community the Rotary club which covers that area would sponsor the student, Pendergrast explained. Outbound students can be between 15 and 18 1/2 years old when they leave on an exchange program.
Conducting the informational session will be Pendergrast and Rome Rotary President-elect Nancy Neiley who also is an RFA science teacher.
Information will be offered about short-term summer exchange programs as well as longer-term programs for a school year.
