John Johnsen, Utica College provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, has named Rachel Baker and Lyndon Hall as the class of 2018 valedictorians and Brett Szajner as the class salutatorian.
Baker, a health studies major, carries a 4.0 GPA. She currently works part-time for the ARC Oneida Lewis as a specialized recreation aide for children. After graduation, Baker plans to continue at Utica College to earn her master’s degree in occupational therapy.
A Schuylerville native, she is the daughter of Ross and Suzanne Baker and has one sister, Sara.
Hall, a graduate of the accounting program, also carries a 4.0 GPA. She currently works at the Bonadio Group as a small business advisory and tax intern. Upon graduation, she plans to attend law school. A Rome native, she is the daughter of Scott and Christine Hall.
Szajner, who is a criminal investigation major with a concentration in financial investigation, has earned a GPA of 3.98. He will pursue his master’s degree in accounting at Walsh College, after which he plans to take the CPA exam. Upon completion of his master’s degree and CPA, Szajner will begin employment with Plante Moran, a public accounting firm in Southfield, Mich. A member of the UC Men’s Ice Hockey team, he is the son of Dino and Norma Szajner and has one brother, Adam.
Utica College’s undergraduate commencements ceremonies will be held Sunday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. in the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
