Rome’s Carlo third after one round of Mid-Amateur

LANCASTER — In the 90th New York State Women's Mid-Amateur Championship at Lancaster Country Club,  Rome native Pennie Carlo of Crestwood Golf Club is third after the first round.

Carlo shot a 78 on Tuesday, one stroke behind co-leaders Teresa Cleland and Jenna Hoecker.

Rome's Lauren Cupp, playing out of Yahnundasis Golf Club and the 2017 Mid-Am champ, finished at 9-over 82 after the first 18 holes of play.

The Mid-Amateur division is played to a par of 73 and 5,436 yards.

The field will play 18 holes of stroke play, followed by a 36-hole cut to the low 50% of the field and ties, as well as anyone within 10 strokes of the lead.
