Rome woman ticketed after accident

TOWN OF FLOYD — A Rome woman was ticketed and hospitalized after a car fire on Route 49 led to her rear-ending another vehicle Tuesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said Raisa Hunt, 28, was eastbound on Route 49 at about 10:30 a.m. when she became distracted watching a car fire in the westbound lanes. Deputies said Hunt’s 2016 Hyundai Elantra crashed into the back of a 2020 Mitsubishi, driven by Leopoldo Ferraro, 84, of Utica.

Hunt was taken to Rome Memorial Hospital for a minor neck injury, authorities said. She was also ticketed for following too closely and is scheduled to appear in Town Court.
