Rome woman killed in Lewis County ATV crash
MARTINSBURG — A Rome woman was killed when the ATV she was riding on crashed into a utility pole in Lewis County on Saturday, according to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies said Gene Clark, 55, of Rome, was operating the ATV with Kim Clark, age 48, also of Rome, on Swernicki Road in Martinsburg on Saturday. Deputies said the 2022 CF Moto 800 four-wheeler went off the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.
Gene Clark was thrown off the ATV and suffered a leg injury, authorities said. Kim Clark suffered significant injuries and was rushed to the county hospital, where authorities said she succumbed to her injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Investigators said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
