UTICA — A Rome woman was charged with assault for striking another woman in the head with a baseball bat during an incident that occurred last month on Steuben Street.

Utica Police said they responded to a report of an assault in the 1500 block of Steuben on Oct. 22 and learned from the victim that when she attempted to break up a fight between two people, a relative of one of those involved struck her in the head with a bat and fled the scene.

The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital where she received several staples to close the wound, police said.

Due to the nature of investigation, the case was assigned to a member of the Criminal Investigations Division. In looking into the suspect, it was learned that she was currently on supervision with State Parole, and with their assistance and that of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Brianna Young, 33, of Rome, was located on Nov. 11.

Young was charged with: second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was also wanted under a State Parole warrant.  She will appear in court.
