Rome Twigs, Tree of Lights campaign impacts local health care

The Rome Twigs have launched its annual Tree of Lights campaign, allowing area residents to honor loved ones and support their efforts on behalf of Rome Memorial Hospital.

Kudos to Barry Funeral Home, this year’s corporate sponsor of the Rome Twigs’ Tree of Lights campaign, which has donated $1,000 to the fundraiser for Rome Memorial Hospital.

Now in its 31st campaign this year, the Rome Twigs event will also honor hospital employees for their dedicated service during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tree of Lights will be lit at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 6, in the front of the hospital. Covid-19 precautions will be observed. Due to current precautions, there will not be a reception preceding the tree lighting.

Contributions to the Tree of Lights campaign help the Twigs, a not-for-profit organization, continue its long tradition of service in support of the hospital and its mission. All donations are tax deductible and all monies are used by the Rome Twigs for the purchase of hospital equipment and to support programs of the hospital.

Last year’s Tree of Lights campaign raised more than $10,000. Those dollars, along with other monies raised by the Twigs in 2019, go toward programs that contribute to patient comfort and care at Rome Memorial Hospital.

Hospital departments which have benefited from Twigs donations in 2020 include: ambulatory surgery, emergency department, maternity, operating room, therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory therapy, sleep disorders center, Residential Health Care Facility and medical imaging.

Individuals may purchase lights for $5 each to honor a living person, remember a deceased loved one, or express thanks; each light on the tree represents a gift of love and remembrance. Donations can be sent to: Rome Memorial Hospital, Attention Tree of Lights, 1500 N. James St., Rome, NY 13440. Checks payable to Rome Twigs. Contributions may also be made online at
