The Tree of Lights reception and ceremony — a staple of the holiday season and a major fundraising activity for the Rome Twigs — will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of Rome Memorial Hospital, 1500 N. James St.
The event will move outside at 7 p.m. for the ceremonial lighting of the tree.
AmCare Ambulance Service Inc. will be honored for the company’s many years of devoted service to the community and partnership with the hospital, event organizers said. A scroll displaying the names of donors and their honored persons will be displayed at the event, organizers added.
Individuals may purchase lights to honor a living person, remember a deceased loved one, or express thanks; each light on the tree represents a gift of love and remembrance. In order to be included on the scroll, donations of $5.00 or more for a light must be received by noon on Monday, Nov. 25, addressed to Rome Memorial Hospital, Attention Tree of Lights, 1500 N. James St., Rome, NY 13440. Checks should be made payable to Rome Twigs.
Contributions to the Tree of Lights campaign help the Twigs, a not-for-profit organization, continue its long
tradition of dedicated service in support of the hospital and its mission.
All donations are tax deductible, organizers said, and all funds raised are used for the purchase of hospital equipment and to support programs of the hospital. Last year’s Tree of Lights campaign raised more than $10,000.
Those dollars, along with other monies raised by the Twigs, go toward programs that contribute to patient comfort and care at Rome Memorial Hospital, officials said.
AmeriCU Credit Union is the corporate sponsor of the Rome Twigs Tree of Lights 2019 campaign. The company has donated $1,000 to the Twigs fundraiser for Rome Memorial Hospital.
A visible symbol of the season, the Tree of Lights project began in 1989.
In 2019 alone, the Twigs have donated nearly $56,000 worth of equipment to the hospital, all of which directly impacts patient care. Hospital departments which have benefited from Twigs donations include the operating room, pulmonary rehabilitation, physical therapy, sleep center, medical imaging and the third floor Residential Health Care Facility, according to a hospital announcement.
