Rome Teachers Association raises funds to help support students in need

Posted

The Rome Teachers Association (RTA) has raised $1,400 through its annual community raffle with the proceeds to benefit Rome City School District students through the district’s Concert Closet and the  Rome Teachers Association Children’s Fund.

The Concert Closet provides dress outfits which fifth- and sixth-graders in the district can borrow for concerts. The Concert Closet is part of StandTALL, which offers everyday clothing and prom dresses that students can choose and keep.

For many years, The RTA Children’s Fund has filled requests from its faculty and staff for needed items for students year round.  However, the biggest undertaking for the fund is during the holidays when RTA members ensure that the neediest children and families in the district who are receiving little or no help from other sources receive needed items as requested by the parent(s) along with something to provide the children with some holiday cheer.

Major prize donors include Ricky’s Tire and Auto Center, El Jarocho Mexican Restaurant and Bar, Walmart Supercenter, Bailey’s Karate School, Black River Wine and Spirits, Ace Hardware of Rome, Bostwick Liquors, DiBellas Gifts, and Rocco Gualtieri Market.

Tickets were sold by RTA members and the drawing was held at a recent social event sponsored by the RTA.
