A “Parent University” kickoff event for Rome school district parents to learn about various assistance available through the community schools initiative will be Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Strough Middle School, 801 Laurel St.

The event, free to all Rome school district families, will be hosted by the Rome Alliance for Education in conjunction with the Rome Area Chamber of Commerce and Jervis Library.

The event is “an opportunity for the Rome Alliance for Education to provide supports to parents in a variety of ways,” said Rome school district Superintendent Peter C. Blake in his online blog. The event is “an opportunity you to learn more about
what they have to offer, as
well as to provide information about what types of learning opportunities our parents need.”

It is “an opportunity for you and your family to come and take free classes on all aspects of life,” according to the Rome Alliance for Education Facebook page.

It said to call Sara Barton at 315-269-7892 if there are questions.

The Rome Alliance for Education is a non-profit organization that helps to coordinate the community schools program for the Rome school district.

The initiative includes having schools act as “hubs” providing on-site links for local agencies to help meet various student and family needs.
