ROME — A 39-year-old man is accused of choking his girlfriend during a domestic dispute on North Crescent Drive, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said Steven C. Cruz, of Rome, was involved in an argument with his girlfriend in the 100 block of N. Crescent Drive on Jan. 13. During the argument, police said Cruz pushed the woman onto the bed and choked her.

The woman tried to call 911 for help and police said Cruz snatched her cell phone out of her hands and threw it against the wall, damaging the wall. Cruz then left the residence and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Cruz was located and taken into custody early Saturday morning on one count each of third-degree assault, second-degree imprisonment, criminal obstruction of breathing and two counts of fourth-degree mischief, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court.
