Rome needs to lure retail businesses

“Our economy is always changing,” was stated by County Executive Anthony Picente in his State of the County address. Once again the focus is on Utica concerning the downtown hospital and the Nexus Center.

What about Rome? Why is it that we are left in the dust. Those in power are naming everything “Copper City.” No mater how many businesses include “Copper City” in their name the truth is we are representing a city in distress. We pay taxes that are too high for what we have here. Instead of focusing on the Griffiss Business Park, we need to draw retail business to our area in order to boost our economy. Our legislators need to do something about the horrendous cost of National Grid and their “delivery fee” along with Spectrum and their increases.

It’s time for action and not just promises. Remember the injustice when it’s time to vote.

— Kathleen A. Murphy, Rome
