Rome man killed as motorcycles collide

TOWN OF CAMDEN — A 65-year-old Rome man was killed and two others were hospitalized after two motorcycles collided on River Road Sunday evening, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff's deputies said Ronald Secor, of Rome, was northbound on a Harley Davidson motorcycle at about 6:53 p.m. when he collided with a second Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated southbound by Steven Mahana, 55, of Clay, Onondaga County. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Deputies said Secor was pronounced dead at the scene. Mahana was air-lifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to a Syracuse area hospital with life-threatening injuries, deputies stated. His condition could not be determined this morning.

Authorities said Mahana was riding in tandem with 57-year-old Mary Akshar, of Fayetteville, also Onondaga County, who was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

No tickets have been issued so far. Authorities said the collision remains under investigation.
