Rome man faces multiple charges following incident in parking lot

NEW HARTFORD — A Rome man is facing multiple charges after law enforcers said he was found jumping on the hood of a car in the parking lot of St. Luke’s Hospital.

Police said Roberto Carvalho, age 24, had ingested a substance that led to his erratic behavior.

Police said they were called to the hospital at about 8:55 p.m. May 21 and found Carvalho jumping on the hood and windshield of a motor vehicle in the parking lot. With assistance from hospital security, police said they were able to take Carvalho into custody after a brief struggle.

Carvalho was taken into the hospital for evaluation. Police said they determined he had ingested a substance that led to his behavior. Police did not release the name of the substance.

Carvalho is charged with one count each of fourth-degree mischief, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest, authorities stated. He was arraigned in court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear in court.
