Rome man charged with possession of stolen property after fleeing officers

A Rome man has been charged with possession of stolen property after he attempted to escape sheriff’s deputies very early Wednesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

Deputies said they were on patrol shortly after midnight on Turin Road when they saw 34-year-old Craig Bean on a bicycle near the intersection with Potter Road. When Bean spotted the deputies, they said he tried to evade and eventually threw the backpack into the woods.

Bean was detained and the backpack was found to contain stolen property, authorities said.

Bean is charged with one count of fourth-degree possession of stolen property, a class E felony, deputies stated.

He was ticketed to appear in City Court.
