A 30-year-old man is accused of stealing more than $1,000 worth of tools from a North Madison Street garage.
Police said Gerald D. Allen, of Rome, stole a chop saw, a drill set, a battery charger and other tools and gear from an unattached garage on North Madison Street at about 11 a.m. Thursday. The homeowner discovered the theft and notified law enforcement to investigate.
Shortly thereafter, Officer David A. Salle Jr. spotted Allen driving nearby, and he knew Allen had a suspended license. Police said Salle pulled over Allen and found the stolen tools and equipment in the back seat of Allen’s vehicle.
Allen is charged with one count each of third-degree burglary, a class D felony, and fourth-degree possession of stolen property, a class E felony, authorities said. He was held in lockup overnight to await arraignment today in City Court.
