A 38-year-old Rome man was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after his sports-utility vehicle rolled off Old Oneida Road Monday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies said Peter Cutler was eastbound between Route 26 and Henderberg Road at about 3:40 p.m. when his 2011 Ford Edge went off the south shoulder into a ditch. Deputies said the SUV hit a culvert and became airborne, causing it to roll several times before coming to rest.

Cutler was air-lifted by Mercy Flight helicopter to University Hospital in Syracuse. Deputies said he had been listed in serious condition following the crash.

The accident remains under investigation, authorities said. No tickets have been issued so far.
